Farmland for a New Generation New York (FNG-NY) is a program coordinated by American Farmland Trust (AFT) – in partnership with the State of New York, agricultural organizations, land trusts, and others – that helps farmers seeking land and landowners who want to keep their land in farming. FNG-NY provides resources and services to the community through the New York Farmland Finder website and the Regional Navigator network.
The New York Farmland Finder website’s function is limited to providing information. It cannot guarantee a successful farmland-farmer match and is released from responsibility for any loss, damage or injury that may occur as a result of inquiries. As a user of this website, you expressly agree that the use of, and browsing of this website is at your own risk. By creating and submitting a profile, you are giving AFT permission to post your information on its website. It is your responsibility to contact AFT if you are no longer interested in participating in the program.
AFT and Regional Navigators are not involved in real estate listing, brokerage or sales activities. AFT and the Regional Navigators do not represent buyers or sellers of properties and are not affiliated with buyers or sellers (or their representatives) which list, advertise, sell or rent properties on the website. AFT and the Regional Navigators do not receive any real estate commissions before, during or after any transactions directly related to this site. AFT may allow third parties to post advertisements on this website. Any such advertisements are not an endorsement of the product or services advertised therein. Regional Navigators participating in FNG-NY are not employees, partners, or agents of AFT.
AFT and Regional Navigators are not liable for any direct, incidental, special, consequential, indirect or punitive damages arising out of your access to, or use of, or inability to use the New York Farmland Finder website or any linked site, the acts or omissions of a Regional Navigator from whom you have procured services, or for the cost of procurement of substitute services or resulting from any services purchased or obtained or messages received or transactions entered into through the New York Farmland Finder website, including but not limited to, damages for loss of profits, use, data or other intangible property including legal costs and expenses, even if AFT has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
The following are expectations of those using the resources and services provided by American Farmland Trust, including the New York Farmland Finder website:
- Be polite and respectful – demonstrate respect for each other throughout all your interactions, including email and phone communications as well as in-person.
- Be truthful – ensure your profile and all related information you share, whether written or verbal, is an honest and accurate representation of yourself, your land or your farming experience, and the opportunity you are seeking or offering. AFT is not responsible for the accuracy of the information posted by others on the New York Farmland Finder website (nyfarmlandfinder.org).
- Be inclusive - recognize that everyone has their own perspectives based on their experience and identity. Keep an open mindset; be open to new ideas, working with new people, and being challenged while staying respectful.
- Be engaged - be sure to respond to all inquiries you receive so that users know your profile is active. Most website users have chosen to communicate via email, which tends to be a slower form of communication compared to phone calls or text messages. Delayed responses are expected when communicating via email, but users who do not respond to inquiries from other users or AFT will have their profiles removed for inactivity until a response is received.
AFT acknowledges that differences in opinions and conflicts are normal in interpersonal interactions and uncomfortable situations may arise. We ask that you work to address these differences in a respectful and civil manner before contacting AFT. If you feel that another website user has violated these terms of use and are uncomfortable addressing the issue directly with that user, or have been unsuccessful in resolving the issue, you may report the issue using this form or contacting AFT at [email protected]. Serious violations to the terms of use, such as hate speech, sexual, racial, or ethnic slurs, discrimination, harassment, abusive behavior of any kind, or illegal activities will not be tolerated and will result in immediate removal of a profile from the website and/or other restrictions on a user’s access to associated services.
AFT will review each report of violation of this terms of use and will use our discretion to appropriately address the situation. AFT has the right to discontinue profile holders’ use of New York Farmland Finder at any time, but additional actions with users who are in violation of the terms of use may be taken. These additional actions include, but are not limited to:
- Notify a user of reported misconduct
- Communicate via phone call or email with the parties involved to learn more about the reported misconduct and determine if a violation has been made
- Refer parties to New York State Agricultural Mediation Program or other conflict transformation organization

Acknowledgement and Release

You give AFT and its consortium members permission to release your name, address, phone number, and any information provided by you, or information or maps created with such information, to interested persons who wish to participate in the activities of FNG-NY. You certify that you understand that in no way does AFT guarantee that you will be successfully matched with a farmer or landowner or that if a match does occur that it will be successful. In addition, you understand that AFT and its consortium members are not responsible for any activities between participants resulting from our match-making efforts. You do hereby agree to release and hold harmless AFT and its consortium members and agree to indemnify and defend each of them from any and all claims, costs, suits, actions, judgments and expenses, including attorneys’ and experts’ fees, that may occur in connection with provision or dissemination of such information by AFT and its consortium members. You agree to the expectations set forth above and understand that AFT has the right to discontinue your participation in FNG-NY at any time for any reason whatsoever.
