Property Description

Soil types:

Oakville loam

Description of the property’s current condition and current use(s):

I operate a cosmicly grown market garden on a few acres which I market at a farmers market and small CSA. I have a small herd of grassfed cattle which I rotationally graze over the remaing acres and make baleage for winter feed. I also raise some pastured pigs and chickens. The entire farm has been chemical free since 2013, prior to that most of the tillable acres had been in continous conventional corn for 40+ years.

Farm history / past uses of the property:

This farm has been in my Mother's family for nearly 100 years. My grandfather raised cattle, chickens, and horses here. My parents bought the farm in the early '70s and had a brood mare operation here for a short time, after that the farm was rented out for corn production. I started operating a chemical- free small fruit and veg farm in 1999 in a 7 acre field on the east side of the road, the west-side remained in continous corn until 2013 when I began managing the whole farm. I am trying to use grass and cattle to repair the damage that hard nitrogen and continous monoculture has done.
