Description of the property’s current condition and current use(s):
This farm is in vegetable production now and has been since the mid 90's. It is all flat with drain tile in part of it. Previous to that we used this for hay and corn production. This has been conventionally farmed. The parcel includes a farm stand, greenhouse, barn and well. We have rotated crops, however there are a few sections that are in dire need of new organic material. Ideally a new tenant would use about half while improving the other half.
Farm history / past uses of the property:
This was a dairy farm until the mid 70's. We purchased it in 1980 for hay and corn for our own dairy which is five miles away. We later converted to vegetable production and have been growing a wide array of row crops for more than 20 years.
Infrastructure and equipment:
- Water access
- Barns or other facilities for storage of equipment, livestock, and crops
Water access description:
Water is somewhat limited. There is a 600 foot well on the premises but generates about 10 GPM. This could be further developed. We have used a series of tanks for irrigation on part of the land.
There is a large barn roughly 40x130 whch does need some repair. Additionally there is a 24x48 farm stand and a 30x 48 greenhouse frame (needs new poly).
Crops and Livestock
Types of crops permitted to be produced on the property:
Description of tenure options:
We are looking to either sell or lease this parcel but will consider other options. We have established markets in NYC, a CSA group and wholesale accounts which could be absorbed with a partnership agreement.
Preferences and restrictions on agricultural activities:
I do not suggest livestock operations on this site. There are however no legal restrictions here. It is zoned for Ag.
Do you require a farmer who qualifies for agricultural assessment?:
Are you willing to have the public on the property as a part of the farm business?:
Any additional information about this property:
After the death of our father, my brother and I have decided to scale back our farm activities. This parcel is our best cropland but is separate from our main farm and as such presents logistical challenges for us. This is excellent vegetable and hay ground.
