Farming Status and Plans

Description of farming status, plans, and practices:

 
 
Currently I am part of a partnership with 2 others. www,provenancefarmcsa.com.  The 2 other partners are not involved in the day to day decisions. When we formed the partnership all 3 of us were supposed to be involved.  Partner 1  in charge of all monies partner 2involved in all marketing and social media partner 3 (me) all farming activities.  Unfortunately they both have very busy lives and are unable to be involved and all responsability is on me.
I am transitioning to organic and am going thru the certification process now.  I have 5 acres in vegetables and fruits that feed 80 CSA members and also restaurant sales.
I am regionally from the Hudson Valley and if I make a farming change I would like to return.  New Jersey is very different in that local - organic is a hard sell.
One problem with the land I am on now is that they do not allow public access.  I would like a farm that has or can have a farm store.  I graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and use my produce and meats in my private chef jobs.  I would like to develope this more and need an outlet.  As well as have farm dinners and some events.
 
 
 
    
 

Description of marketing method:

Social media presence as well as direct marketing.  I feel that getting to know your customers builds a sense of loyalty.  Previously I was a chef and understand how kitchens work and have been very successful selling directly to restaurants.

I have been farming for 4 years full time and part time 2 more.  I took the Beginning farmer class at Hawthorn Valley Farm as well as classes from the Institute of eco systems in Millbrook NY and road to organic certification class thru NOFA-NJ
