Description of farming status, plans, and practices:
Hello! I am currently in my third season, my second in the position of Crew Manager, at Row by Row Farm, an organic diversified vegetable prouction farm located in Hurley, NY. We grow vegetables and strawberries on 27 acres and have about 100 additional acres in cover crop rotation. Our produce is sold at two NYC Greenmarkets, local grocery stores, as well as through a couple of wholsale accounts. I manage a crew of 6 poeple each season in all aspects of harvesting and field work. I have extensive experience operating a Kubota 900 tractor and various planting and cultivation implements. My job also entails completing much of the seeding work throughout the season and assisting with greenhouse management.
My partner (who is also farming in management position at Row by Row) and I are looking for an opportunity to begin farming more independently and on a smaller scale. We are interested in starting our own five acre farm, or getting involved long-term on a farm whose practices and mission align with ours; where we can put into practice sustainable and regenerative methods that will have a positive impact on the land and in the community.
Description of marketing method:
I am interested in Community Supported Agriculture, farmer's markets, and potentially selling to local restaurants or stores. I have managed CSA programs in the past and have extensive experience working farmer's market and have found both of those marketing outlets to be positive for small farms and the surrounding community.

Crops and Livestock
Description of livestock/crops:
I am primarily interested in organic vegetable production, but would also like to incorporate flowers and herbs. I am interested in on-site production of farm fertility and, to that end, would explore the positibility of incorporating livestock. I would start small, with poultry, but consider goats or dairy cows in the future.

In addition to my farming experience in the Hudson Valley, I was an apprentice for two seasons at Camp Joy Gardens, a small, non-profit family farm located in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California for over 30 years. This farm grows mixed veggies, berries, and flowers on about 3 acres and has an orchard with about 100 fruit trees as well as a small herd of goats and laying hens. The focus of this apprenticeship is on hand-scale agriculture, animal husbandry and cheesemaking, as well as alue added projects such as jams, pickles, and dried flower wreaths. Planting practices are sustainable and organic, though they are not certified.
Before pursuing farming, I worked for five years at an environmental non-profit in Yonkers, NY that focused on collaborative, community-based solutions to environmental problems. Initially hired as the Volunteer Coordinator, I was soon promoted to Deputy Program Director. In this position I gained experience working on a variety of projects in the environmental field including: urban river restoration, school and community gardens, environmental education, sustainable food system development and food access, youth leadership training, trail-building, and intergenerational programming. I have a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College where I studied Psychology, Environmental Studies, and Color Photography.
