Farming Status and Plans

Years actively farming:

Description of farming status, plans, and practices:

I graduated this past May from Cornell with a degree from the Ag school. I grew up on a diversified livestock operation in Northern, NY where we focus on high value products and direct marketing.

I interned for a summer on a large scale organic grain operation and really took a lot away from the experience. I was involved with all aspects of the operation and learned from many mentors.

Fast forward to 2018, I graduated from college and purchased my farm from a family friend. As we had been renting the ground from him I am able to certify it organic for 2019. It only has roughly 70 tillable acres so I am limited on land at the moment. My goal is to expand the farming operation through long term leasing and potential purchasing of land that can be certified organic. I am obsessed with doing the best job possible on the land and am in the process or pursing my CCA (certified crop advisor) certification. I have a buyer for all the organic grain I can grow. I am more than willing to travel for land and can move equipment as necessary. I am looking for long terms leases and will pay a fair price to the land owner. I rely on soil samples and science to add value to the land and prevent soil erosion, nutrient draining and weed pressure.

I realize I may be younger than many producers looking for more land but I have been involved in the industry and running my own small business for a decade and am committed to farming full time in the future. I will gladly travel for all justifiable acreages.

I was part of a Ram Trucks Commerical series that descbires my passion for agriculture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdwnKcKOE4s&t=33s

Description of marketing method:

I have a buyer for all the organic grain I can grow. This relationship came from my internship at the large organic grain farm.
