Farming Status and Plans
Description of farming status, plans, and practices:
I currently run the poultry program (broilers, ducks, geese, and turkeys) at Double Brook Farm--a vertically integrated business group that includes two restuarants, a retail market, processing facility, and the farm-- located in Hopewell, NJ, where I have worked since January 2019. Before that, I was an Apprentice and Cattle Manager at Fickle Creek Farm in Efland, NC where I worked in all aspects of the farm, including animal chores (hogs, cattle, sheep, layers, broilers), 2.5 acres of vegetables (low/no-till intensive), managed 1 of the 3 weekly farmers markets (Chapel Hill, where I also served on the Market Board), wrote grant applications, and took part in pretty much every other aspect of the farm management. I would love to start or join a team of people looking to better the land they are growing/raising animals on, feed lots of people really good food, continue to educate myself and others as much as possible about regenerative agriculture (read "real" organic), and support my team and myself with a profitable business. Prior to farming, I cooked in NYC and worked a complete array of hospitality jobs both in NYC and Boston. And just out of school I joined a small startup that aimed to feed preschools and daycares incredibly healthy, fresh meals focusing on the marketing and sales aspects of the business. I hold a BA in Economics from Bates College--minor in Japanese and focus on Philosophy--am an avid traveler, reader, skier, and eater.
