Farming Status and Plans
Description of farming status, plans, and practices:
I'm looking to tend a small farm with my family, focused on rescued livestock and pasture health. Crops will be grown at a minimum and will be for personal use for the foreseeable future.
Description of marketing method:
- Capital Area
- Hudson Valley
Desired acreage:11-20, 21-50, 51-100, >100
Infrastructure required:Onsite housing, Barns or other facilities for storage of equipment, livestock, and crops, Water access, Fencing, Electrical Access
Description of buildings required:
Barn and other housing structures must be sound, safe/usable, and need little to no repair. Not picky about too many upgrades or luxuries. Cluttered and needing sprucing up or minor repairs/replacements is perfectly fine for us.
Description of water access required:
Water to the barn is important to us. Fresh water on the property is a plus and TRAVERSABLE water would be a dream come true for my aspiring fishing guide husband. Looking for a good well!
Description of fencing required:
Fencing requiring minimal repair is doable, but we are not looking to need to install all new fencing or completely replace what stands.
Crops and Livestock
Primary crops:Vegetables, Fruits, Ornamentals, Hay
Primary Livestock:Cattle - Dairy, Equine, Goats/Sheep, Pigs, Poultry, Other livestock
Description of livestock/crops:
Focus in the future will be on caring for a small and varied population of rescued livestock animals. Immediate focus will be on improving and maintaining pasture health, and repairing and improving existing infrastructure. Crops will be grown at a minimum for our dietary needs, with a possible market garden being established in the future.
