Farming Status and Plans
Years actively farming:2-5
Description of farming status, plans, and practices:
My passion is growing plants and bringing people together around the landscape and food. My practices are ecological, organic and holistic with minimal to no use of heavy machinery.
I am looking to lease or partner with someone who is of a positive mind, wants to grow a small scale organic farming/garden operation and has an interest in plants, sustainability, land access, food justice movements, education, public gardens and celebrating diversity.
The farm/garden will include perennial cut flowers, berries, vegetable production, greenhouse growing, shrubs and more. Diverse planting is something the farm/garden will highlight. For this reason, I would love the farm/garden to serve as a public garden and center for education. The farm/garden should be designed, maintained and cared for at the highest level. It should also produce the highest quality produce and flowers.
I am happy to start with an acre of land. The goal is to start small; therefore to grow a farm/garden that is manageable, sustainable and not an immediate financial burden. I'm open to any kind of mentorship regarding grant writing, marketing and sales. I'm also open to trading my horticultural experience for land use or living arrangements. If the landowner has ideas of their own i am very open to collaborating. The goal is to build a long standing relationship; therefore a farm/garden that can mature and grow for years to come.

My experience is hands- on and formal. I worked on my first farm in 2006. It was then when I discovered my passion. Since then I have worked with plants in various capacities; from small scale urban farming to estate gardening. I graduated from the Professional Gardener Program at Longwood Gardens in 2010. I also hold an MFA in visual art from the University of Minnesota.
Most recently I worked for Brooklyn Botanic Garden where I managed the Children's Garden. I was responsible to design, build and maintain a 1.5 acre garden of vegetables and perennials. I also managed a staff of 5-10 educators depending on the season. For years now i have been engaged with the food justice community in NYC. I am currently a continuing education instructor at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. I have also taught numerous workshops to adults and teens in farming and horticulture throughout NYC. I have also travelled extensively visiting farms and gardens learning new growing and education techniques.
In regard to tools i have experience with with large scale machinery and many hand tools.
