My name is Amara, I use they/them pronouns. I am seeking land and collaborators to cultivate a healing herbs cooperative farm centering Black and Indigenous ecological stewardship practices and healing traditions. I completed Grow NYCs Farm Beginnings course to develop my business plan. Im interested in three main enterprises: production (medicinal herbs), a community supported apothecary, and public education. Would like farmland that has been farmed organically or can be organic. Looking to steward this land using low-till and climate adapative strategies.

Description of buildings required:
Would like on site housing for the farm crew to live and work in, also to have communal space to offer workshops and gatherings. Ideal but not required: Propagation house, high tunnels for processing and drying herbs, dry storage for seed and storing bulk herbs, storage for tools and amendments.

Minimum 40 psi for overhead and drip irrigation ideal: pond, well water, town water hookup

Description of livestock/crops:
Will focus on producing a veriety of annual herbs and perennial crops that will be harvested and preserved for plant-based medicine. Grown in 1/8 acre test plots for first 1-3 years to establish markets.

I am a food justice educator and farmer currently working at Rocksteady Farm and Flowers. Previously I was teaching at KCC Urban Farm in Brooklyn NY. I facilitate earth-based lessons that celebrate ancestral foodways, black and indigenous technologies and community resilience. I have six years of organic urban farm experience.
