Farming Status and Plans
Years actively farming:10+
Description of farming status, plans, and practices:
After returning to school and completing my degree in animal science, I am back to hobby farming. I have a small flock of ruminants and poultry, an equine or two, who are strip grazing (and fertilizing) their half of the property, and an intensively managed vegetable garden, currently about a half acre. In the past I have created and maintainged much larger operations, and I am currently buidling my business plan and laying the groundwork for future stewardship of land in the Ithaca, NY region.

- Southern Tier
Desired acreage:6-10, 11-20, 21-50, 51-100, >100
Infrastructure required:Water access
Description of infrastructure:
If there are outbuildings on the property, great! If not, I am not opposed to building shelter as needed for stock with owners permission. I have housing, and can maintain that address if none exists on the new property. I have considered just purchasing an RV to haul the stock trailer and being a self contained unit, but have not taken the plunge just yet.
Crops and Livestock
Primary crops:Vegetables, Fruits, Grains, Ornamentals, Hay, Other Crops
Primary Livestock:Cattle - Beef, Cattle - Dairy, Equine, Goats/Sheep, Poultry, Other livestock
Description of livestock/crops:
In the past I have managed all of the above, but with a mind for sustainabity and using old fashioned animal power to farm and manage the land. The goats brush hog, the sheep murder the burdocks and pigweed, and I use the horses to haul the plow, if I use it at all (I prefer permaculture and raised lasagne beds to disturbing the soil). Poultry is my pesticide, and cattle eat the taller grass everyone else passes by.
Tenure options desired:Farm Management, For Lease, Partnership, For Sale, Other Tenure Agreement
Description of tenure options desired:
I am pretty open to arrangements. I despise the idea of ownership, even though it is a necessary evil in society. I prefer the idea of stewardship, and will strive to care for whatever property I come in contact with to balance the ecostystem with food production.
