Description of farming status, plans, and practices:

I am a seasoned hospitality and burgeoning sustainable agriculture entrepreneur with experience in successfully growing and selling industrial hemp and converting two former dairy farms owned by others in Delaware County into a thriving farmhouse/event rental business (www.fieldandstoneny.com).  In 2019, I converted a hay field on the farm into 3 productive acres with 4,500 CBD hemp plants that I cultivated, harvested and sold for a profit (www.catskillshemp.com).  I learned through that experience that I wanted to work more in harmony with nature, producing food and herbs utilizing biointensive organic methods - creating a back-to-basics lifestyle with as little reliance on heavy equipment as possible, building soil, biodiversity, and ultimately contributing to the health of people and the planet. 

I have just completed my first Permaculture Design Certificate and have an interest in developing a forest farming operation (i.e.- cultivating high value specialty crops under a forest canopy, such as mushrooms and other edibles, medicinal and culinary herbs, ornamentals, etc. depending on site conditions). I'm highly motivated by the idea of managing different layers in the forest to create sustainable harvests of non-timber products, which can, in turn, improve wildlife habitat, aesthetic/recreation value, and become a conservation opportunity for overharvested or rare native plants. 

I believe a hospitality component is crucial to the financial success of many small-scale agriculture operations and would have interest in developing a farmstay concept alongside the agroforestry endeavors.  Creating value-added products like salves, tinctures, etc. is also of interest to me.

Description of marketing method:

Non-timber forest products: CSA and farmers markets, wholesale to restaurants, on-site farm stand, direct selling to customers using search engine optimized website, word of mouth, retail outlets, brokers.  Farmstay: Airbnb platform, website, TBD...
