Farming Status and Plans
Description of farming status, plans, and practices:
I am currently work in social / legal services with the migrant farmworker population in NY state, based out of Ulster / Dutchess counties. My background in agriculture before my current job spans across orchard work, vineyard work, but has mostly been focused on diversified livestock production, rotational grazing, and regenerative practices. My partner's experience has mostly been in diversified livestock production, and she manages a small herd of dairy goats in Dutchess County. We've managed medium size flocks of poultry, goats, sheep, and small herds of cattle. Currently we are pursuing our own land management and animal-raising - we are using our current jobs to fund our own agricultural endeavors, at the moment mostly consisting of a small herd of meat goats that we move through overgrown woods and properties around New Paltz. We are looking for land to lease, and potentially even transition into ownership, in the mid-Hudson Valley areas. Most of our experience and practice revolves around organic (certified or not) livestock and grassland management. There's always a lot to be said about farming experiences and goals, and I would love the opportunity to talk a little further about our experiences, what you might be looking for, and potential of working together. Most of our experience is based on small ruminants and poultry, and we'd be looking to start a smaller, locally oriented business designed on practical and sustainable growth.
Description of marketing method:
Direct marketing to customers and clientele. We have connections with a livestock broker who pays a fair price as a backup.
