Farming Status and Plans

Years actively farming:

10+

Description of farming status, plans, and practices:

I am a farmer in transition.  I am college educated in "traditional agricultural practices" but have always had an interest in a more sustainable format.  Organic...actually not the best descriptor.  I want to pursue methods that rely on "natural" methods" that utilize soil health and fertility developed by use of natural crop growing practices not inorganic fertilizers and also a reduction of all fossil fuel uses whether in the products commonly used on the farm to fuel directly used on the farm.  I am currently establishing a flock of Icelandic sheep.  The theory....the sheep are native to an area with a more extreme climate than our own.  Icelandic sheep are able to produce a "crop" on grass and forbes only...no grain required.  I have some old genetics from milking sheep...Icelandics...I have found the meat to be a very consumer friendly product and this winter.  I am also interested in producing grains for the organic producer.  I already own farmland but I am looking for additioanl land for the harvest of hay and grazing.
