Farming Status and Plans

Years actively farming:

Description of farming status, plans, and practices:

Dairy farm manager looking for ownership opportunity.

Currently farm manager and herdsman on 300 cow organic dairy. Previously herd manager for 2500 cow dairy. Speak dairy Spanish. Would like the moon, an organic dairy with good pasture, good crops, and robots for milking. I have never direct marketed to the public but would like to explore that in my next life to diversify income stream. I need a milk market to come with the farm.

I am interested in organic farming because I think that there is a lot of room for improvement in organic dairy farming a farmer can be competitive without being huge. I think that the cows are healthier because they spend a significant part of their lives on pasture, I appreciate healthy animals.

I am interested in robotic milking because they allow a cow person to be a cow person and not as big of a people manager. I have managed people enough to know that it takes a lot of energy to keep up with a milking crew. I also like that robots "free up" a cow's time, so that she spends more time doing things she wants to do and less time waiting for us to milk her.

Description of tenure options desired:

I would like an arrangement where I can buy the farm over a few years rather than all at once. I previously tried to get financed for a dairy farm and was approved by farm credit for a cow and equipment loan, the bank wanted us the lease the facility from the owners until we had enough equity built up to apply for a loan to buy the land and farmstead.
