Description of farming status, plans, and practices:
I am interested in starting a farm, doing some market gardening of fruits and vegetables, growing some grains, and legumes. I want to do this organic, no-till, with heavy rotations. I want to have a small orchard, perhaps a small vineyard, and a few animals to support the farm--some layers and perhaps a couple of cows. Essentially a combination of biodynamic (in the holisitc sense) and organic (in the practical, not certified sense). I want to market to a CSA, restaurants, retail, and perhaps do (or connect with) some sort of small cafe/restaurant for an integrated field to table connection. I have worked on 8 different farms and gleaned a lot of what I like and did not like from each, and I read constantly about sustainable agriculture and am currently taking advanced soil science courses. In the end, I aspire to put my ideas and ideals into practice, and while I can say I want all of the above the land I ultimately wind up settling with will largely dictate the scope of the operation.
