Farming Status and Plans
Years actively farming:Less than 2
Description of farming status, plans, and practices:
I am interested in so many options and ideas. I'm looking to manage a farm or lease a farm to do a variety of projects all depending on what's available and what the owner is looking for. I need housing for me and my dog and internet access as I will continue to lecture at the University remotely. I'm interested in creating a wedding/event venue to increase profits year round and offer horse drawn sled rides in the winter and hay rides in the fall. I'd like to grow artesian heirloom fruits, veggies, eggs, mushrooms, and cheese for chefs in NYC, so I'm looking for only in the Hudson valley area please. I'd like to also grow varieties of grass, flowers and lavender (to sell), and hay for sheep and goats for dairy and wool and rabbit for meat and fur. Land restoration and preservation are tantamount. Raise heirloom chickens, ducks, and quail all free range, too. I'd like a horse, draft horse, and a donkey to protect the livestock. All the farming is to be done the greenest and humane way possible by using proven methods that protect and enrich the soil, animal and manual labor to reduce costs/accidents/gasoline, composting, organic farming, water recycling with a raised, enclosed fish pond that also produces natural fertilizer, and bees to pollinate and produce local honey. I do have a connection in Vermont and at the University of Vermont and University of Florida IFAS to create the varietals I'm hoping to cultivate. There is also potential to grow hemp for CBD and clothing.
Ideally, this would be someone that owns the land and needs someone to develop it and manage it. Or a lease or partnership. But, I need to have my own housing on the property.
