Farming status, plans, and practices

I am a beginning grower working toward establishing a small specialty cut flower farm in Westchester County or the surrounding area. I am currently seeking approximately ¼ to 1 acre of land to lease, with the goal of beginning production on a manageable scale and expanding as I gain experience.

My initial focus will be specialty cut flowers grown for direct-to-consumer sales and for use in my floral design business, Bloomennial. As the farm develops, I am also interested in offering U-pick flowers, bouquet subscriptions, workshops, farmstand sales, and other flower-focused agritourism experiences where appropriate.

I plan to use sustainable growing practices with an emphasis on soil health, responsible water use, and low-impact growing methods. Access to water is important, and existing greenhouse or high-tunnel space would be especially valuable for propagation and season extension.

I have a lifelong interest in gardening and plants and am actively building my knowledge of commercial flower production through horticultural education, hands-on growing, volunteering, and resources for beginning farmers. I am looking for a property and landowner relationship that would allow me to start small, learn, and build a sustainable long-term farming operation.

Farm Experience & Education

  • Farmer training or workshop
  • On farm work experience

New York Botanical Garden – Gardener's Weekend Workshop: Completed an intensive gardening workshop covering practical horticultural skills, soil preparation, plant selection, planting techniques, garden planning, maintenance, and sustainable gardening practices.

On-Farm Experience: Volunteer at a local flower farm, gaining hands-on exposure to cut flower growing, harvesting, and general farm activities.

Additional Experience: Home gardener and floral designer actively developing skills in outdoor growing and commercial cut flower production through independent study and hands-on practice.

Marketing Method

My primary focus will be direct-to-consumer sales of locally grown flowers through my floral design business, Bloomennial. Potential sales channels include fresh bouquets and arrangements, bouquet subscriptions, U-pick flowers, farmstand sales, workshops and seasonal flower experiences. As production grows, I may also explore farmers markets, event florals and wholesale sales to local florists and designers.

Farmland Needs

Infrastructure required

  • black outline barn icon Barns - Equipment Storage
  • black outline electrical icon Electrical access
  • Black outline of a fence Fencing
  • Black outline of a water drop Water access

Reliable water access for irrigation is my primary infrastructure requirement. Electrical access, secure equipment/storage space, and deer fencing are also highly desirable. Existing greenhouse or high-tunnel space would be a significant benefit for propagation and season extension, but is not required. I am open to properties where some infrastructure may need to be developed or improved over time.

Desired Tenure

Tenure options desired

  • For Lease
  • For Sale
  • Business Partnership
  • Other Tenure Agreement

I am primarily interested in leasing a small portion of farmland to establish a specialty cut flower operation, ideally beginning with approximately ¼–1 acre with the ability to expand over time. I am also open to purchasing the right property or considering a flexible long-term arrangement with a landowner whose goals align with mine. I am particularly interested in properties where existing agricultural land or infrastructure can be brought back into productive use.

Estimated price range for a lease or a purchase of a farm property

Flexible; dependent on acreage, location, infrastructure, and whether leasing or purchasing.
