Farming status, plans, and practices
My practice of farming is growing perennial plants, primarily native herbaceous perennials and shrubs, as well as fruit and nut shrubs and trees. I use local resources and materials as much as possible and collect seed and propagation material myself to build a low-cost, low-input system. My work is part-time, as I have another part-time job, so I am building a system that largely cares for itself. I am partnered with town environmental committee to implement an ecological restoration project.
My plan and intention with this outreach is to connect with a landowner who is interested in helping spread native and edible plants across the region. I would like to have dedicated areas for propagating larger quantities of plants from seed and cutting, possibly in a greenhouse/season extension area. I am looking for shady/wooded areas to establish populations of native understory perennials, as well as sunny areas for shrub and tree saplings.
Broadly, I would like to practice permaculture principles while growing plants for sale/distribution. This includes using recycled materials from the way stream, local organic matter, and minimizing power and water use. I plan on implementing automation through technology and alongside natural cycles.

I attended an intensive apprenticeship with Ben Falk of Whole Systems Design, LLC in Vermont in April, 2025 managing a regenerative human ecology composed of silvopasture, vegetable, orchard, forestry, water farming and other systems. Work included pruning fruit trees, planting, building water harvesting systems, foraging, and understanding companion planting.
