Primary reason for farming

Farming status, plans, and practices
I would like to learn and practice the most sustainable, off grid farming possible, using rainwater collection and natural pesticides, as well as solar, hydroelectric and wind to power most of my energy costs. I would love to establish a neighborly existence with my fellow local residents and trade my goods for what others nearby might have. As someone who grew up with a bountiful fig tree in Brooklyn, that I’ve learned how to tend over the seasons for over two decades, I would love to host fig, apple and cherry trees, alongside berries and squash. I’d also love to grow herbs including basil, thyme, sage, rosemary, lavender oregano and mint. Along the way, once established, my dream would be to have some educational outreach to underprivileged communities of NYC and help provide quality food and services to public school children.
Farm Experience & Education
My main experience comes from being a landscaper for in Atlanta, GA; also Rochester and Fredonia, NY. I’ve also grown herbs, fruits, vegetables, and flowers in pots and a garden in Brooklyn, NY. I’ve learned some from trial and error; a lot from reading and community forums.
As a carpenter and builder I’ve worked both for New Project, LLC (6 years) and as a freelance carpenter and fabricator for over 10 years. With New Project I’ve worked with metal, wood, acrylic and other materials. I’ve been a builder and installer for museums, retail and residences throughout NYC and would be happy to use my skills to help the farm. I have my OSHA 40, including forklift certification.
