I have been trying to find land to lease for awhile but I usually end up getting a curveball thrown at me. I intend on raising a variety of livestock and doing a market garden. Please understand I will be using the USDA to receive operating funds.

I am not currently farming on any land but I am hoping that will change soon. My goal is to build up equity while being able to save enough money from the income generated to eventually purchase my own farm. When it comes to livestock and crop production I am a major fan of regenerative and organic agriculture.

I graduated Alfred State College with an associate's degree in Agricultural Business and I have another degree in Environmental Studies from Niagara County Community College. I worked on a horse farm during my childhood when my aunt used to own horses and for almost three years I worked at a commercial chicken (layer) farm. For little more than a year I owned and operated an ecommerce store.

Ideally I would like to raise and start a mixed breeding herd consisting of beef cattle, sheep, meat goats, and pigs (if there is enough land) while also raising poultry for egg production. For the market garden I plan on growing microgreens, fruits, vegetables, and herbs. If I can find additional land to lease I would like to use it for growing hay and for grazing. I am on the fence about trying to grow mushrooms and raising honeybees.  If there is the necessary infrastructure and a commercial kitchen nearby that I can rent then I would like to get into dairy production in order to provide whey for the pigs.

Marketing Method

When it comes to selling produce I will be selling through an online platform, farmer's markets, produce auctions, CSA's, and possibly a co-op.

Apart from the land being zoned agriculture and not residential agricultural I will need a barn to put the livestock in and use for equipment storage. Farmer housing will most likely be needed due to distance and the fact that it would not make sense to rent a house if I am unable to acquire funds from the USDA. Please understand that USDA does not do preapproval and everything is done per farm.
