Primary reason for farming
Other
To secure a suitable farm for the temporary housing, care, and rehabilitation of approximately 14 rescued horses while longer-term placements are arranged.
Farming status, plans, and practices
The New York State Humane Association (NYSHA) is a nonprofit animal-welfare organization seeking a farm or agricultural property for the temporary care of approximately 14 horses currently in our care. We are seeking a short-term lease of approximately 6 to 8 months while longer-term arrangements for the horses are made.
This is not a commercial farming, breeding, training, or horse-boarding operation. The property would be used exclusively to provide the horses with safe shelter, appropriate pasture and turnout, feeding and watering, veterinary care, and daily husbandry. NYSHA will work with veterinarians and experienced animal-care professionals to ensure that the horses receive appropriate care and oversight.
We are seeking a property with adequate barn and/or livestock shelter, secure fencing, sufficient pasture or turnout areas, reliable water and electricity, and safe access for horse trailers and service vehicles. Because the horses need to remain separated from unrelated horses during this period, the property cannot currently house other horses.
NYSHA is committed to responsible use of the property, including appropriate manure management, maintenance of clean and safe animal areas, responsible pasture use, and respect for the landowner’s property. Our goal is to provide a safe, well-managed temporary environment for the horses while they remain in our care.
Farm Experience & Education
NYSHA has extensive experience in animal welfare, rescue, and humane care and works with veterinarians and experienced animal-care professionals. The horses will receive appropriate daily care, veterinary oversight, and responsible management throughout their temporary stay.

Desired Tenure
NYSHA is seeking a short-term lease of approximately six to eight months for exclusive use of a suitable farm or livestock facility to temporarily house and care for approximately 14 rescued horses. We are looking for a cooperative arrangement with a landowner who can provide the necessary barn/shelter, pasture, fencing, water, and electricity. NYSHA would be responsible for the horses’ daily care and management during the lease period.
