Nichole Ryan

We are in Florida, looking for farmland with housing for a short-term lease as a transition to allow for the sale of our home after we've vacated. We'd then purchase our own property, keeping the farmland lease if it's working out for everyone.

  • Central
  • Southern Tier
  • Long Island
  • New York City

Desired acreage

  • 5 or fewer
  • 6-10

Primary reason for farming

Farming status, plans, and practices

Currently farming on a very small basis, mostly for teaching myself.  No till, regenerative methods.  I've also enjoyed growing hydroponically.  The focus is on salad greens and toppings, microgreens, herbs and flowers.  My intent is to eventually start a CSA and/or farm stand.  If possible on the property or on our future property, we would love to add a commercial kitchen where we can offer value-added products from the land, as well as on-farm dinners/events.  We have cooking, managing, financial, and flower arrangement experience that would all tie into the vision.

Farm Experience & Education

  • Farmer training or workshop
  • On farm work experience

I've been teaching myself through trial and error and have taken many courses.

Primary livestock

  • No Livestock

See crop description above.  We have our personal livestock (chickens, goats and a rescue pig) that are just for fun.  We enjoy the fresh eggs from the chickens.  We're mostly pescitarian, so we don't raise livestock for food.
