Community Compost Company is a food scrap collection and recycling service based in the Hudson Valley of NY. We are a leader in the region for composting and are pioneering organics recycling programs in communities to keep food scraps out of the waste stream. The food scraps we collect are brought to our farm site or other and made into compost, which restores organic content to depleted soils. The compost we produce is sold through our brand Hudson Soil Company.

Job Description

We are seeking a reliable, flexible, and environmentally-minded person to fill one of our compost collector positions. This job is approximately 25 hours a week, but could increase in hours based on expansion of route or need for coverage.

About the Job:
-Drive a truck to perform residential and commercial door-to-door food scrap collection
-Wash compost bins, clean, organize, and ensure equipment is labeled
-Access and use our database through a mobile device to enter weights and other information during collection and at the farm
-Removing contamination of food waste dropped
-Maintain logs for compost collected
-Routinely check and maintain compost vehicles (gas, oil, water, fluids, tire pressure)
-Maintain clean collection vehicles (vacuum exterior and wash exterior) 1x/week and remove trash and personal items from collection vehicles after each route

Other tasks:
-Assist compost site manager as needed with tasks such as picking up contamination around the site, cleaning and organizing the barn, watering compost piles, etc.
-Assist with bagging finished compost
-Make deliveries of bulk and pallets of finished compost throughout the region
-May be asked to cover collection route in Hoboken and Jersey City if/when regular driver is out

Requirements:
-Interest in environmental stewardship and composting, or the desire to learn more about these topics
-Valid Driver's license
-Minimum 6 months driving experience of Non-CDL box truck, dump truck, garbage truck, or other large vehicles
-Comfort driving trucks safely in rural and urban environments
-Clean driving record (we will perform a background check)
-Ability to lift 50 pounds, maneuver wheeled bins of compost weighing up to 250 lbs. and be outside in all weather conditions (we operate year round)
-Experience on a delivery route is a plus
-Familiarity with DOT safety regulations is a plus
-Comfort with some technology - Tablets, Excel, Google Documents
-Experience operating farm equipment preferred (tractor and skid steer)
-Flexible schedule that would allow for covering routes on different days of the week
-Basic mechanical skills and knowledge of vehicle maintenance preferred
-Be on time and show up when expected
-Good problem solver with personal initiative
-Passion for being part of a team, experience on teams
