From gardening to music to movement, Wheatley Farms is part of AHRC Nassau’s Day Habilitation services. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including autism, can connect with their passions while engaging the local community through recreational, social and volunteer opportunities.

Wheatley Farms will grow to become fully inclusive and available to people attending all AHRC Nassau Day Habilitation programs. Job Description

Farm Manager – Live-in Wheatley Farms

35 Flexible Hours/Week - Full Time

Share your love of fresh air and sunshine along with a passion for horses, farming and gardening to create a holistic farm experience alongside people with developmental disabilities. This position includes cost free living in historic Brookville.

AHRC is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated farming professional who will provide strategic vision and leadership in developing, implementing, and supporting a unique day program with a wide variety of options for people with developmental disabilities. 

You will be responsible for:

  • The daily planning, organization, supervision and administration of farm/animal related activities/tasks on Wheatley Farms.
  • Working with an interdisciplinary team to ensure that the farm runs efficiently and profitably.
  • Care and maintenance of livestock including goats, sheep, chickens, horses, and rabbits, etc.
  • Public engagement, tours and working with a large and diverse group of volunteers.  
  • Working in conjunction with administrative and supervisory clinical, therapeutic and fine arts staff to create a healthy, wholesome environment for people with and without disabilities, to therapeutically engage with the soil, land and animals.
  • Caring for the animals throughout the week and on weekends, to ensure their safety and well-being. Live-in status a must.

  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in agribusiness, farm management, other related subjects preferred or commensurate experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience with operating a farm, marketing, and processing of farm products.
  • Experience coordinating diverse programs and services designed for people with disabilities.
  • Experience with start-up development and organizing diverse and multiple systems.
  • Experience with assisted animal therapy, outdoor education.
  • Experience with strategic planning and community partnership development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills required
  • Candidates with an acceptable combination of education, training and experience may also be considered.
