Job Description

 

ROLE: Farmhand

 

General Responsibilities:

The farmhand is a key figure at our school supporting the lead Farm and Garden Coordinator in their work to operate the farm and garden space. In addition to daily chores, the farmhand will perform important responsibilities for the grounds of our campus. We welcome collaboration and ideas to help improve our school environment. Reliability and flexibility are key personality traits for the person in this role.

 

Qualifications and Specific Responsibilities:

Farm and Garden Chores:

Morning chores six days a week including morning feedings between 7:30-8am 

2 weekend afternoon feedings at 4:00pm

Animal Feeding Details (animals subject to change):

Animals on our farm currently - 

2 horses

Pony

Pig 

Goat

Ram 

Lamb 

4 rabbits 

Chore details:

Filling all water containers/troughs/buckets 

Mucking the stalls

Everyday or every other depending on season (in the winter the spend more time in the barn and require more stall maintenance)

Rabbit hutches are generally maintained by the children but occasionally need a little adult assistance in upkeep. 

Maintaining the composting space, performing a visual sweep of the site for trash

Mowing - once weekly, seasonal

Raking -once weekly, seasonal

Snow removal as needed in coordination with the maintenance coordinator.

Reporting to Katie Gibbons (supervisor) around animals, grain/hay/supplies needs. 

Small repairs/painting/light maintenance

The ability to self reflect, strive to grow, and to be worthy of imitation

A strong work ethic and the eagerness to support a growing school.

An ability to collaborate, independently manage, and contribute 

A strength in developing partnerships with colleagues

Some meeting and event participation will be required such as Community Days (once quarterly), Facilities Meetings.
