With the assistance a farm crew of 3 to 4 individuals The Bineyard also assists other “Bineyard Growers” producing hops for sale under the Bineyard brand making the total acreage under management closer to 12 total. Job Description

Position Summary

The Farm Manager position is a seasonal position running approximately March to October and will be responsible for operating the essential daily duties and responsibilities at The Bineyard as well as coordinating with “Bineyard Growers” to ensure successful hop crop production. This position will report directly to the owner but will be expected to work independently and in a group setting. Seasonal tasks include but are not limited to: trellis maintenance, stringing hops, training hops, scouting, irrigation, fertilization, integrated pest management and the harvesting, drying, baling, pelletizing and packaging of the hop products. 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage daily tasks associated with commercial hop production
  • Motivate, Lead & Manage a crew of 2 to 3 individuals that will assist with hop production
  • Coordinate with “Bineyard Growers” best practices and timelines set forth by the manager in this position
  • Manage the necessity and the timely application of herbicides, fungicides and pesticides
  • Assist in timely irrigation practices based on weather conditions and optimal plant uptake
  • Soil management best practices
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Operation and maintenance of farm equipment including tractors, generators and ATVs
  • General farm repair and maintenance tasks

 

Qualifications

  • General problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a group setting
  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of best practices for a working commercial farm
  • Knowledge of soil health, soil fertility, pest pressure and disease management 
  • Experience operating and maintaining diesel engines and equipment
  • General carpentry skills

 

Physical Demands

Primary commercial hop production requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work outdoors in all types of weather and at height (up to 18’ in the air). Ability to walk, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist and climb; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 50 lbs); to operate farm equipment including tractors and other motorized equipment; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation, and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
