What is your farming experience or connection to agriculture?
I am an aspiring farmer with less than a year of farming experience. I actively grow seedlings in a greenhouse, experimenting with different crops to support local farms. I have worked closely with farmers, learning about seedling production, soil health, and sustainable growing methods. I graduated from the Farm School NYC Citywide Program and the GrowNYC Farmer Assistance Beginning Farmer Program.
What are your future farming plans? What do you hope to accomplish in the next year? 5 years?
Next year, I plan to establish infrastructure to support my farming goals and grow seasonal, low-maintenance vegetables and small fruits. I aim to sell the crops at a farm stand and through a CSA program to ensure a steady supply of fresh produce for the community.
Over the next five years, I will expand operations by launching agritourism activities and increasing greenhouse production, building a robust irrigation system, hiring staff, experimenting with year-round growth, and developing additional revenue streams to support the farm's financial stability.
How are you looking to access land?
I would love an opportunity to be mentored by the existing farmer through a lease or a business partnership to help establish my farming operation. I do need the land to be near or within an hour from the Metro North line.
What are you looking for in farmland?
I am searching for land with five or fewer acres. It is important that the land has reliable electrical access and a dependable water supply to ensure efficient operations. A barn for equipment storage and secure fencing would also be ideal.
